This image, like all of the images in my Cross Pollination Series is a creative fusion of my ongoing exploration in creating conceptual still life images in my studio using stuff I grow or that volunteers on our property. I shoot them with my paintings/mixed media and at times repurposed personal items. The subjects in the photos are representation of my inner dialogue on various subjects. This particular image used a painting that I realized (after the fact) was inspired by my watching Ted Talks opening graphics. The garlic I grew during height of pandemic reminded me of vampire stories where people were told to wear garlic to ward off vampires. During the pandemic we all made conscious or unconscious decisions as to the pods we chose to call “safe”. Of course if everyone in the pod is eating lots of garlic no one is offended.
