Reimaging Earth-ASU Northlight Gallery-Artist Talks: David Emitt Adams & Joshua White
October 7, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm
AZPA Members – you are invited to the public Artist Talks by Joshua White and David Emitt Adams at Northlight Gallery on Friday, Oct 7 at 6:30 pm. These two artists are featured in the current exhibit, Reimagining Earth.
Joshua White will speak about his project, Further West, a series of curious and beautiful meditations that features images captured by the HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) camera housed on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The plates are made in-camera by photographing edited sections of the RAW images.
David Emitt Adams discusses his project, POWER, a series of ultra large-scale tintypes made on the lids of 55-gallon oil drums. This project is grounded on the social, political, and environmental landscape of the American oil industry.
Both artists will talk about wet plate collodion, the significance of this historic process, and their reasons for using this process in their personal work.

Reimagining Earth features the works of ASU MFA alumni who explore the experience of the human animal and the non-human creatures that share this Earth. Artists employ philosophy, science, environmental research and political policy to consider the potential for transforming land, sea, air and space as the effects of the Anthropocene continue to influence everything from weather and the migration of animals to the chemical composition of the atmosphere.
Through their individual investigations and perspectives significant questions arise regarding the human relationship to the non-human world. We are encouraged to consider the effects of our proliferation, activity, development, innovation as well as those of conflict on the natural systems of the Earth.
