Introducing the Arizona Photography Alliance Juried Theme Galleries
An ongoing series of virtual themed exhibitions for AZPA members only!
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
New for 2024, AZPA is introducing a Juried Theme Gallery project to highlight the work of our members. Any current AZPA member at any level of photography experience is eligible to participate.
A number of times this year, a call for entry will be announced with a rotating theme. Members can submit up to 3 digital images that speak to the theme, which will be juried by a different professional photographer each cycle. The juror will select ONE image from each entrant that best represents the theme. Each of those images will be displayed in an online gallery (similar to our annual Members’ Exhibition galleries).
In addition, the juror will choose one first-place winner to receive a cash award of $100, plus two more honorable mention recipients that will be featured on our website and social media platforms.

Our Inaugural Theme: Show Us Your Muse
Call for Entries opens January 4, 2024 • Closes January 18, 2024 (EXTENDED DEADLINE!)
Muse: a source of inspiration. What’s your inspiration? A colorful sunset? A sleeping baby? Your true love? The sound of birds at dawn? Show us what, who or where inspires you to create and photograph.
About Our Juror: Mark Peterman
Mark Peterman is a visual artist who explores narrative storytelling through photographs and multi-media. He constructs fictional narratives inspired from cinematic and literary influences that challenge the perception of reality and utilize the mystery of the unknown. His work examines how change, memory, and the passage of time affect the human experience. Growing up in a family of amateur photographers, Mark’s first encounter with photography was a darkroom built by his father in his family’s basement. He attended the Kansas City Art Institute to further his education in the arts, graduating with a BFA in graphic and industrial design. In 2004, he relocated to Arizona where he has maintained a mix of commissioned work for a range of clients and his daily practice of personal projects. Mark’s work has been awarded by the American Photography Annual (AP), the International Photo Awards (Lucie + IPA), Prix De La Photographie Paris (PX3), Photo District News Photo Annual (PDN), and Photolucida’s Critical Mass. His personal projects in book and print form have been exhibited in group shows at museums and galleries including: BBA Gallery (Berlin); Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA); Foley Gallery (New York, NY); Phoenix Art Museum (Phoenix, AZ). His work is in the permanent collection at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, AZ. Learn more about Mark Peterman
