Arizona Photography Alliance Members’ Exhibition 2024
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS Opens March 20, 2024 and Ends Friday, April 12, 2024 at Midnight
This is a call to all Arizona Photography Alliance member photographers to participate in our sixth annual 2024 AZPA Members’ Exhibition which will be displayed in Artlink’s mood room gallery at Park Central in midtown Phoenix. The goal of the exhibition is to celebrate the broad range of photographic interests and talents within its membership, to advance photographic artistry in the state of Arizona, as well as opportunities for learning.
The exhibition will be on display from April 20 through May 10, 2024 (including First Friday on May 3), with an opening reception on Saturday, April 20, with many other events planned in the gallery throughout the run of the exhibition. Watch for announcements.
All pieces submitted to the live exhibition will also be represented in an online exhibition. Please upload a digital image where requested on the submission form. As a unique feature in the online gallery, you may also record and upload a narrated audio about your image. See form below for details.
We’re thrilled to announce this year’s independent juror, Michelle Nichols-Dock, Senior Visual Arts Curator at Tempe Center for the Arts will evaluate our exhibition and present three awards: First Place – Juror’s Award of Distinction, Second Place – Juror’s Special Recognition Award and Third Place – Juror’s Recognition Award. The award recipients will be revealed at the Opening Reception on April 20. The artist who earns the Award of Distinction will give a short talk at the Closing Reception on May 10.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Photographers interested in participating may provide either ONE photograph with a frame size not to exceed 48 inches on the longest side, or TWO photographs, each not to exceed 28 inches on the longest side. Due to the number of anticipated entries, the final number of accepted pieces to the physical show may be adjusted based on space availability. If you submit two pieces, please indicate your first preference if we can only show one of your two photographs due to space limitations, though we reserve the right to display your second preference if that is the better fit.
All photographs submitted for the exhibition must represent your current best quality work and be exhibition-ready. What that means is that your photographs must be printed, matted, and framed to professional presentation standards. Unless prior approval has been obtained, professional presentation standards are a white mat with a simple metal or wood frame. All artwork must be delivered to the exhibit space ready-to-hang with a wire securely attached to the back or side(s) of the frame. AZPA reserves the right to evaluate and reject any piece that does not meet these standards; HOWEVER, we also recognize that certain media and concepts may include other mounting and framing methods. If you would like clarification or assistance preparing your entry, please reach out to AZPA board members Rick Gayle or Fred Ullrich who are ready and willing to provide mentorship and guidance.
Please upload a digital image of each of your photographs for the online gallery and so that we can verify your submission at drop off on site. IMPORTANT: Please prepare the file name of each of your images with this naming structure: LastName.FirstName-ImageTitle.jpg. Save them in JPG; Vertical Images: scale to 550 px Height @ 96 ppi resolution; Horizontal and Square Images: scale to 450 px Height @ 96 ppi resolution. (The width in all cases will fall proportionately to the image height.) Then upload your image(s) where requested in the entry form.
If you would like to offer your image(s) for sale, please enter your desired price (framed/unframed). Purchase inquiries will be directed to the artist.
Like last year, we are also giving you the option to submit a brief audio narration so that visitors to the online exhibition can hear you speak about your work in your own words. There are many options to record and save your voice on your computer or cell phone. We suggest you rehearse what you want to say a couple of times, and keep it simple. For a great example, listen to one of the 2022 Viewers’ Choice winners, Ann Newman, speaking about Ancestral Light shown on this page. Check out the articles here and here for some helpful recording tips.
