This photograph is part of the third chapter in my series Reflections: Finding Stillness. Finding Stillness, fires.
The image came to life as a visual meditation on the power of stillness to create space for discernment, recognizing which fires in our lives are destructive and which fires purify us. A single candle burns at the center, its orange flame reflected, surrounded by swirling orange light and framed by purple lines. The swirl of orange symbolizes the tension between chaos and clarity. The flame steady, representing the strength found in quiet introspection.
These are Still Life images. I created each shot in-camera using traditional methods of lighting, mirrors, angles. Being hands-on is part of the process and catharsis for me.
