In this piece, I delve into the intersections of time, memory, and resilience, particularly influenced by my personal experiences caring for loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s and cancer. The title “Time Stood Still, Now Making Lemonade” encapsulates my exploration of life’s fragility and the moments, both mundane and profound, that define our reality. Through a blend of vintage family heirlooms, my mixed media painting and lemons from our lemon tree I have created an image to evoke nostalgia while inviting contemplation of the complexities of existence. The use of these different elements symbolizes the tension between the relentless march of time and the serene beauty found in fleeting experiences. The vibrant blue calms the deep emotions associated with loss and remembrance, creating a visual dialogue that resonates on a personal level.
I aim to provoke reflection, inviting viewers to engage with the layered narratives within my work. Each piece serves as a reminder of life’s transient nature, a prompt to reconsider our connections and the silence that can accompany profound experiences of loss. By juxtaposing forgotten personal belongings, with elements of nature, I encourage a dialogue about the delicate balance between our past and present. Ultimately, my work seeks to illuminate the ways in which life experiences, both joyful and challenging, shape our perspectives. In this exploration, I hope to foster a deeper understanding of shared human experiences and inspire viewers to engage with their own narratives. This piece also represents my reflecting on opportunity for dialogue and connection with loved ones even amid the complexities of life… before silence ends those opportunities to take place.
