The work presented in my Luminance Series began after many months isolating due to the pandemic. During that time it caused me to slow down even further and become even more comfortable with the simple things. Each morning during the walk with our dog, I began to see a different light and an idea started to unfold as I began to shoot the first few images.
Utilizing multiple exposures became a path into ephemeral images of light and luminosity seemingly passing through time and space. The use of vellum as the media became very important due to its translucency. By backing the image on vellum with Gesso, another layer of luminosity of inner light enhanced the experience for the viewer. The process was a meditation, and represents and explores the spiritual journey of moving through darkness to light, with challenges, roadblocks and awakening moments along the way.
